The Student Is Ready
Total fitness involves striving for optimal quality of life -- socially, mentally, psychologically, spiritually, and physically.  I had been existing - not living.  Out of desperation came the open-mindedness and willingness to do my part.  I resolved to cooperate and became teachable.

You have probably heard, "God says you can move mountains but you have to bring the shovel."  I was finally honest with my innermost self.  I didn't have all the answers but I was willing to learn.  The most important card in my wallet became my library card.  I was no longer seeking "quick, fast, and easy."  I found "sound, proven, and sensible."

Back To Basics
I had to learn to unlearn… then relearn the basics: how to ask for help, how to feed my body, how to express my feelings; in essence, how to act on life rather than react to it.  All things pride had blinded me into believing I already knew humility taught me I needed to learn anew.

Into Action
The first step towards self-love and self-acceptance is to stop all self-criticism.  I learned to redefine exercise from a boring chore to meditation in motion.  I learned to take the focus off empty calorie trigger foods and place it on discovering new favorites that are both delicious and nutritious.

Thin is not well.  Well is well.  It is far more important to heal from the inside out; developing a healthy heart, lungs, and self-esteem than it is to be skinny.  I found the intrinsic motivation that has kept me going long after reaching my goal weight; making amends to myself for years of self-abuse - a day at a time.

Back To School

  • anatomy and exercise physiology

  • health screening and evaluation

  • nutrition

  • exercise prescription

  • special populations

The National Council of Strength and Fitness (NCSF) is the only certification program approved as a continuing education provider by: the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification, American Physical Therapy Association, National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodyworks, and the Commission on Dietetic Registration - the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association.
